Did any of you wake up to dirty, dusty cars this morning? That'll be Saharan dust 👀⬇️ . Saharan dust is a mixture of sand and dust from the Sahara, the vast desert area that covers most of North Africa. . ⬇️ How does it get to the UK? ⬇️ . As in other parts of the world, the wind can blow strongly over deserts - whipping up dust and sand high into the sky. If the winds in the upper part of the atmosphere are blowing north, the dust can be carried as far as the UK. . Once it is lifted from the ground by strong winds, clouds of dust can reach very high altitudes and be transported worldwide, covering thousands of miles. . In order for the dust to get from up in the sky down to the ground, you need something to wash it out of the sky - rain. As raindrops fall, they collect particles of dust on the way down. Then when the raindrops land on something and eventually evaporate, they leave behind a layer of dust. . . #saharadesert #saharandust #ukweather #dustThanks @mildthing99 for this great shot! UK 5 DAY WEATHER FORECAST Monday 22 Apr - Friday 26 Apr Headline: Mostly dry and clear but scattered showers in the west. This Evening and Tonight: Most areas will stay dry with clear spells, especially towards the east. There will be more in the way of cloud in the west and southwest, where there will be a risk of scattered showers. Tuesday: Tuesday will be mostly sunny and very warm. It will be cloudier and cooler along North Sea coasts though, with a chance of showers in the west and southwest. Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Scattered thundery showers will move northwards on Wednesday, introducing cooler conditions. UK forecast: Mostly clear and chilly tonight. This Evening and Tonight: Evening rain over northwest Scotland will ease, leading to a mostly clear night across the country. It will be rather chilly away from western coasts, perhaps with isolated patches of mist and fog in central, southern and eastern England. Monday: Easter Monday will be very warm for many. The sunshine may turn hazy across the south and west, with the risk of isolated showers here later. Cooler along eastern coasts. Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday: Tuesday will be mostly dry and warm, however showers are possible in the southwest later. Today: Early morning fog patches soon clearing. Most areas will have a dry day, with plenty of sunshine. Cloudier across western Northern Ireland and northwest Scotland, with some rain edging southeastwards here. Feeling warm or very warm for many. Tonight: A clear evening and night for many, though showery rain will continue across northern Scotland. A few fog patches forming across eastern, southern and central parts. Chilly for many. Sunday: Another fine day for most places, with plenty of sunshine. Still cloudy across the northwest of Scotland, with some rain possible at times. Feeling very warm for most. Outlook for Monday to Wednesday: Fine, warm and sunny for Easter Monday and Tuesday, though an increasing risk of thunderstorms in the southwest later.
