The cool theme which characterised the start of spring continued into May. Temperatures were somewhat below average for much of the month as winds prevailed from a northerly direction. The UK mean temperature was 9.5 °C which is 0.8°C below the 1981-2010 average. This made it the coldest May since 1996. In our video Forecaster Helen talks through the weather that defined May as well as pictures you sent in via Twitter.
