Met Office in the Media: Thursday 02 December

The cold and snowy weather continues to dominate the news with widespread coverage. John Hammond appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Material World today talking about the reasons behind the prolonged and early nature of the cold and snowy weather. The Daily Express reported on the accurate and timely forecasts issued by the Met Office. Many other papers also reported on the current cold and snowy weather and its impacts.

James Delingpole in his Telegraph Blog and EUReferedum Blog, both mistakenly report that the Met Office forecast a ‘mild winter’.  This is simply not the case and follows an inaccurate story published earlier last month, which was followed up in a blog post here and on our website. Following public research, the Met Office no longer issues long-range forecasts for the general public; instead we provide a monthly outlook on our website.
