We have issued severe weather warnings for many parts of northwest England, the Derbyshire Dales, Yorkshire, North Wales and Northern Ireland as stormy weather pushes across the UK. Winds of 40 to 50 mph are likely quite widely across the UK, but gusts up to 70 to 80 mph are possible across northern parts of Britain through this evening and tonight, before gradually easing through the early hours of Friday morning.
Eddy Carroll, Chief Forecaster at the Met Office said: “It will be very stormy across the UK , with gales or severe gales. With winds from the southwest the major routes that run north–south through northern England are most at risk of seeing potentially disruptive cross-winds.”
The unsettled and often windy theme to the weather is forecast to continue through the rest of the week and into the weekend.
